London, UK (4 January 2013): Global diversified media firm Alpha1Media International on January 4 launched its acclaimed annual list of the top films from around the world which cinema audiences can look forward to watching in 2013.
The A1Film Preview List for 2013 highlights 10 essential and 40 interesting films from Hollywood, Bollywood, the Middle East and Far East which audiences can look forward to in the coming year, Alpha1Media said.
In the Quintessential category, the top 10 films from across all categories chosen, are ‘Man of Steel’, ‘After Earth’, ‘The Great Gatsby’, ‘The Tomb’, ‘Lincoln’, ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, ‘Iron Man 3’, ‘Berandal’ and ‘A Common Man’.
In The Blockbuster – Superheroes category, the first film selected is ‘Man of Steel’, matching Christopher Nolan, David Goyer and all at Syncopy with Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill – and then other films include ‘Iron Man 3’, ‘Thor: The Dark World’, ‘The Wolverine’ and ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’.
In The Blockbuster – Armageddon category, the first film selected is ‘After Earth’ which pairs Will Smith, his son Jaden with M. Night Shyamalan – and then other films to include ‘Oblivion’, ‘World War Z’, ‘Cloud Atlas’, ‘Elysium’ and ‘Pacific Rim’.
In The Global Cinema category, the first film selected is ‘The Great Gatsby’ matching Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Amitabh Bachchan in his first major Hollywood film – and the other films include ‘Berandal’, ‘A Common Man’, ‘47 Ronin’, ‘Rock the Casbah’ and ‘Spirit’ / ‘Djinn’.
In The Duel category, the first film selected is ‘The Tomb’ pairing Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger for the first time in actual roles, as opposed to a cameo – and the other films include ‘Djano Unchained’, ‘Gravity’, ‘Malavita’, ‘Les Miserables’, ‘The Counselor’, ‘Winter’s Tale’, ‘The Big Wedding’ and ‘Gangster Squad’.
In the A1-Vehicles category, the first film selected is the Oscar-nominated ‘Lincoln’ directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Daniel Day-Lewis, with other films including ‘Knight of Cups’, ‘Jobs’, ‘The Last Stand’, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, ‘The Lone Ranger’, ‘Bullet to the Head’, ‘Ten’, ‘Reach Me’ and ‘Jack Reacher’.
In The Franchise category, the first film selected is Bruce Willis as John McClane for the fifth time in ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’, with other films including ‘Star Trek into Darkness’, ‘The Hangover Part III’, ‘Jack Ryan’, ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’, ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’, ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’, ‘Machete Kills’, ‘Dhoom 3 / Bang 3’ and ‘300: Rise of an Empire’.
In The Geo-Political Thriller, the first film selected is the Oscar-nominated film about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden in ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, ‘White House Down’, ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ and ‘Thunder Run’.
On December 26, Alpha1Media also released its A1Film T10 List of top ten films in 2012 in order include ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, ‘Life of Pi’, ‘The Avengers’, ‘Kahaani’ / ‘Story’, ‘Argo’, ‘Skyfall’, ‘Fateh 1453’/ ‘Conquest of Two Empires 1453’, ‘Serbuan maut’ / ‘The Raid’, ‘The Amazing Spider-man’ and ‘Agneepath’ / ‘The Path of Fire’.
On March 5, Alpha1Media International realised a historic milestone for global cinema and for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by conceiving and advising on the first film premiere in Saudi Arabia, directly working with the legendary Oscar-winning film producer, Mr. Jake Eberts (‘Gandhi’, ‘Dances with Wolves’). The film, ‘Journey to Makkah’, was shown in public for the first time in Jeddah, marking the first time a film had been shown in public in the Kingdom, where cinemas are currently banned. The event was front page exclusive news in Variety in Hollywood and in the Middle East, in both English and Arabic.
The film premiere in Saudi Arabia was a dream come true for Mr. Jake Eberts, who sadly passed away on 6 September. Jake produced films which won 37 Oscars (Academy Awards) from 67 nominations with 4 of those for Best Picture. His most famous films include Chariots of Fire (1981), Gandhi (1982) and Dances with Wolves (1990). His most recent landmark documentary included ‘Journey to Mecca‘ (2009), which was shot partially in the in the Holy City of Mecca, and the soon to be released ‘Jerusalem‘ (2013), a film with unprecedented access for filming in the Holy City of Jerusalem. Alpha1Media is deeply honoured to have worked with Mr Eberts and his team to achieve cinematic history for a final time.
Alpha1Media™ was also the only company in the world to be VIP guests at milestone film premieres of Spider-man and James Bond in 2012, celebrating 50th year anniversaries for both characters featured in the A1Film Top 10 List.
Alpha1Media™ were also VIP guests at the Gala European and UK Premiere of ‘The Amazing Spider-man’ at No. 9 at the Odeon Leicester Square, London, UK on 18 June 2012, marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Spider-man in 1962. The premiere was attended by the film’s stars including Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans and the film’s director, Marc Webb. Alpha1Media was also deeply honoured that on Spiderman’s 50th Anniversary, the character was given a sidekick called Alpha.
Alpha1Media™ were VIP guests at the Royal World Premiere of ‘Skyfall’ at No. 6 at the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK on 23 October 2012, marking the 50th anniversary of the first James Bond film, Dr. No, in 1962. The premiere was attended by HRH Prince Charles, the film’s producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and the current James Bond, Daniel Craig.
