London, UK (25 January 2018): Global media and entertainment firm Alpha1Media International on January 25 launched its inaugural A1Film Awards for 2017, highlighting the achievements of the global cinema industry over the year.

The A1Film Awards for 2017 highlights films, writers, producers, actors and directors, from Hollywood, Bollywood, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa and the Far East which are reflective of the best of global popular cinema in 2017, Alpha1Media said.

‘The A1Film Awards List continues to be the only list of its kind, focusing on the achievements of our industry colleagues in popular cinema over 2017,’ said Ms. Felce, Alpha1Media’s official spokesperson.

Alpha1Media on x launched its A1Film Top 10 List 2017, celebrating the Top 10 Films of 2016. From its A1Film Top 10 List 2017, Alpha1Media awards the following colleagues in the global film industry with the inaugural A1Film Awards 2017, recognising their achievements this year.

The A1Film In Memoriam Achievement Award is given to Roger Moore, the first English actor to portray the iconic cinematic British secret agent, James Bond, who died on 23 May 2017. Moore starred in seven James Bond films, the same as Sean Connery, and is the longest-serving James Bond actor from 1973 to 1985, with films such as ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’ and ‘Octopussy’, ending his tenure in ‘A View to a Kill’. The Chairman and CEO of Alpha1Media appeared in the James Bond film for the Millennium, ‘The World Is Not Enough’ opposite James Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan. Alpha1Media ™ were VIP guests at the Royal World Premiere of ‘Skyfall’  at the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK on 23 October 2012, the 50th anniversary of the first James Bond film, ‘Dr. No’, in 1962.

The A1Film In Memoriam Achievement is also given to Shashi Kapoor, the Indian actor and director from the Kapoor film dynasty, who died on 4 December 2007. Kapoor was the 2014 recipient for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in Indian Cinema, for his 168 films. Kapoor most famously was paired with legendary Bollywood acting superstar and the A1Film 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Amitabh Bachchan, in 12 films, such as ‘Deewar’, ‘Namak Halaal’ and ‘Shaan’, and also directed him in ‘Ajooba’. Kapoor was also married to the English actress, Jennifer Kendal, and appeared in British and Hollywood films, including those by production house Merchant-Ivory as well as about Pakistan’s founder, ‘Jinnah’.

The A1Film Lifetime Achievement Award is given to legendary Hong Kong martial artist, actor, director, producer and singer Jackie Chan. Chan has appeared in over 150 films around the world since the 1960s, is one of the best-known entertainment talents in the world and is also currently the second-highest paid actor in the world. In Hong Cinema, Chan initially began as a stuntman and actor opposite the legendary martial artists actor Bruce Lee, before carving out his status mixing martial arts with comedy in Hong Kong cinema films such as ‘Wheels on Meals’, ‘Police Story’ and ‘Armor of God’ before going to Hollywood and appearing in films such as ‘Rush Hour’ and its sequels and ‘The Karate Kid’ as well as ‘The Foreigner’ opposite Irish actor Pierce Brosnan. The Chairman and CEO of Alpha1Media first saw Jackie Chan in person when he came to the UK in 1999 for the OU Asia-Pacific Society, and is hoping to work with Chan in its future motion pictures.

The A1Film 2017 Best Original Screenplay is given for ‘Get Out’ to American auteur, Jordan Peele, who wrote, directed and produced the film, which is No. 7 on the A1Film Top 10 List for 2017. ‘Get Out’ was produced for $4.5 million and made $254.6 million at the global box office, making it a runner up to the A1Film 2017 Best Producer Award.

The A1Film 2017 Best Producer is given to top-tier Indian producer and actor, Aamir Khan, for ‘Dangal’, No 3 on the A1Film Top 10 List for 2017. ‘Dangal’ was produced for $10.9 million at the global box office and made $303 million at the global box office, making it the highest grossing Indian film in history. Khan’s first film as a producer, ‘Lagaan’ was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

The A1Film 2016 Best Director is given to British-American auteur, Christopher Nolan for ‘Dunkirk’, No. 2 on the A1Film Top 10 List for 2017. Nolan previously won the A1Film 2014 Best Director and Best Actor Awards for ‘Interstellar’, No. 1 on the A1Film Top 10 List for 2014. Nolan was also a producer of ‘Transcendence’, No. 7 on the A1Film List 2014‘Man of Steel’, No 2 in the A1Film List 2013, and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, No. 1 in the A1Film Top 10 List for 2012. Alpha1Media™ were VIP guests at the Gala European and UK Premiere of ‘Man of Steel’, at the Odeon Leicester Square, London, UK on 12 June 2013, seeing Christopher Nolan for the first time.

The A1Film 2017 Best Foreign Picture is given to top-tier Indian actor and producer Aamir Khan, for ‘Dangal’, No 3 on the A1Film Top 10 List for 2017. ‘Dangal’ was produced for $10.9 million at the global box office and made $303 million at the global box office. Khan is now Bollywood’s biggest box office draw, with four films in the top 10 highest grossing films in history, led by ‘Dangal’. Khan also starred in ‘3 Idiots’ in 2012, the highest-grossing Bollywood film in history at the time, also produced by Indian producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra whose gained the A1Film 2016 Best Foreign Picture Award film for ‘Wazir’, starring Indian legendary actor, Amitabh Bachchan, was No. 7 in the A1Film Top 10 List for 2016.

The A1Film 2017 Best Actor Award is given to British actor Andy Serkis his lead role in the film, ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’, No. 6 in the A1Film Top 10 List for 2017. Serkis portrays the leader of the apes, Caesar, using motion capture, as he has done so in the previous films in the saga.

The A1Film 2016 Best Actress Award is given to Israeli actress Gal Gadot for her leading appearance as Wonder Woman in ‘Wonder Woman’, which was No. 4 on the A1Film Top 10 List for 2017 and also for the same role in ‘Justice League’ at No. 8. Gadot was the A1Film 2016 Best Female Newcomer for her first appearance as Wonder Woman in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, which was No. 9 on the A1Film Top 10 List for 2016. Alpha1Media were VIP guests at the Gala European and UK Premiere of ‘Man of Steel’, at No. 2 in the A1Film List 2013, at Odeon Leicester Square, London, UK on 12 June 2013 (the 75th anniversary of the creation of Superman in 1938), meeting with actor Henry Cavill, who plays Superman.

The A1Film 2017 Best Picture is given to is given to American producer and President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, for ‘Spider-man: Homecoming’, No 1 on the A1Film Top 10 List for 2017, and the first Spider-man film which will be produced with counsel from Marvel Studios. The A1Film 2016 Best Picture was also given to Feige for ‘Captain America: Civil War’, No 1 on the A1Film Top 10 List for 2016. Spider-man is portrayed by British actor Tom Holland , the A1Film 2016 Best Male Newcomer. Tom Holland is the third actor to portray Spider-man in major feature films, following American actor Tobey Maguire and British-American actor Andrew Garfield. Alpha1Media were also VIP guests at the World Premiere of The Amazing Spider-man 2, at No 5 on the A1 Film Top Ten List 2014, at the Odeon, Leicester Square, London, UK on April 10, having been VIP guests at the Gala European and UK Premiere of ‘The Amazing Spider-man’, in London on 18 June 2012 (the 50th anniversary of the creation of Spider-man in 1962). Alpha1Media met with Stan Lee, the creator of Spider-man, in London at the London Film and Comic Con on July 11 and July 12, 2014, and also are the final guest for signing by at his last ever-signing appearance in Europe on July 13, 2014.

Alpha1Media on 31 February 2017 published the A1Film Top 10 List 2017, which, in order by best film, includes ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, ‘Dunkirk’‘Dangal’‘Wonder Woman’, ‘Blade Runner 2049’, ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’, ‘Get Out’ , ‘Justice League’, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and ‘Logan’.

Alpha1Media will also launch its acclaimed annual list of the top films from around the world which cinema audiences were looking forward to in 2018.

The A1Film Preview List for 2017 will highlight essential and interesting films from Hollywood, Bollywood, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa and Far East, which audiences can view over the year.
