29 December 2013: Global diversified media firm Alpha1Media International on December 29 launched its inaugural A1Film Awards for 2013, highlighting the achievements of the global cinema industry over the year.

The A1Film Awards for 2013 highlights films, writers, producers, actors and directors, from Hollywood, Bollywood, the Middle East and the Far East which are reflective of the best of global popular cinema in 2013, Alpha1Media™ said.

Alpha1Media™ on 28 December 2013 launched its A1Film List 2013, celebrating the Top 10 Films of 2013. Oscar-winning American director Ron Howard publicly thanked Alpha1Media™ on Twitter for placing his film, ‘Rush’, at Number 9 on the list describing it as ‘a thrilling real-life Duel where admiration comes unexpectedly @RealRonHoward in his element.’

From its A1Film List 2013, Alpha1Media™ awards the following colleagues in the global film industry with the inaugural A1Film Awards 2013, recognising their achievements this year.

The A1Film 2013 In Memoriam Award is given to actor Peter O’Toole, who passed away on 14 December 2013. O’Toole was the lead titular actor in the Oscar-winning 1962 film, ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, recognised by Alpha1Media™ as a leading archetype of ‘The Historical Epic’ in its film development strategy of A1-Genre films.

The A1Film 2013 Cross-Cultural Lifetime Achievement Award is given to Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan. Having appeared in over 180 Indian films over four decades, his role in the film ‘The Great Gatsby’, No. 10 in the A1Film List 2013, marked his first film in Hollywood. Nearly a decade earlier, Alpha1Media™ had proposed Amitabh Bachchan for his first Hollywood role in the ‘Holy War’ treatment, meeting with him at the House of Lords, London, United Kingdom, on 21 July 2006.

The A1Film 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award is given to American auteur Sylvester Stallone. The Oscar-nominated writer and actor, who created three cinematic iconic franchises in ‘Rocky’, ‘Rambo’ and ‘The Expendables’, worked in a A1-Genre film archetype of ‘The Duel’ with great friend and former rival, Arnold Schwarzenegger, in ‘Escape Plan’, No. 3 in the A1Film List 2013.. In January 2014, Alpha1Media™ is set to attend an Evening with Sylvester Stallone in London, United Kingdom.

The A1Film 2013 Best Original Screenplay is given to Mexican auteur Alfonso Cuarón for ‘Gravity’. The Oscar-nominated writer, producer and director contributed to the A1-Genre of ‘The Play’ through his work on ‘Gravity’, No. 1 in the A1Film List 2013.

The A1Film 2013 Best Producer is given to American producer Charles Roven for ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘American Hustle’. The award-winning producer of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy, recognised by Alpha1Media as the best film trilogy in history, produced ‘Man of Steel’, No 2 in the A1Film List 2013, and ‘American Hustle’, no 4 in the A1Film List 2013. Alpha1Media™ were VIP guests at the Gala European and UK Premiere of ‘Man of Steel’, at the Odeon Leicester Square, London, UK on 12 June 2013, and also VIP guests at the Closing Gala Premiere of ‘American Hustle’ at the tenth Dubai International Film Festival in Dubai, UAE on 14 December 2013, both of which were inaugurated by Charles Roven – the only company in the world to be so.

The A1Film 2013 Best Actor Award is given to British actor Henry Cavill for his portrayal of Superman and Clark Kent in ‘Man of Steel’, No 2 in the A1Film List 2013. Casting the role of Superman has been very difficult historically and Cavill not only revived the character for a global audience in the 75th anniversary of the creation of Superman in 1938, but also revived the franchise for both of DC’s leading characters, with 2014 heralding Batman Vs Superman, also to be produced by Charles Roven. Alpha1Media™ were VIP guests at the Gala European and UK Premiere of ‘Man of Steel’ , at the Odeon Leicester Square, London, UK on 12 June 2013, where they met with Henry Cavill.

The A1Film 2013 Best Actress Award is given to American actress Sandra Bullock for her leading role in ‘Gravity’, No. 1 on the A1Film List 2013. ‘Gravity’ made US $653 million at the global box office, making it the highest-grossing film ever for Bullock. Bullock, who got her first leading role opposite Sylvester Stallone, A1Film 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award, in ‘Demolition Man’ in 1993, won the Best Actress Oscar in 2009 for ‘The Blind Side’.

The A1Film 2013 Best Non-English Picture is given to Saudi auteur Haifaa Al-Mansour for milestone Saudi Arabian film, ‘Wadjda’, No 5 in the A1Film List 2013. The film has been globally celebrated for its achievements, including being first film from Saudi Arabia submitted for the Oscars. Alpha1Media™ met Haifaa al-Mansour at the Opening Gala Premiere of ‘Wadjda’ at the Gulf Film Festival, in Dubai, UAE, on 11 April 2013 and also at the World Premiere of ‘The Factory Girl’ at the Dubai International Film Festival in Dubai, UAE, on 8 December 2013. Alpha1Media™ conceived, advised and launched the first film premiere in Saudi Arabia in modern history, a milestone achievement for global cinema acclaimed by Variety in March 2012.

The A1Film 2013 Best Impact Picture is given to American auteur Kathryn Bigelow for ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, No. 6 on the A1Film List 2013. Bigelow created the film, based in the Middle East, as a follow-up to ‘The Hurt Locker’, for which she won the Best Picture and Best Director Oscars, but the film was mired in controversy. In January 2012, Alpha1Media™ identified ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ as a top quality film in its A1Film Preview for 2012 and had included it at No. 6 in its A1Film List 2013, nearly two years later. Both ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ and ‘The Hurt Locker’, were filmed in Jordan, thanks to the efforts of George David, the head of the Royal Film Commission of Jordan, whom Alpha1Media™ met at the Dubai International Film Festival in December 2013. David is the first Middle Eastern citizen to lead the influential Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI).

Alpha1Media™ on 26 December 2013 published the A1Film List 2013, which, in order by best film, includes, ‘Gravity’, ‘Man of Steel’, ‘Escape Plan’, ‘American Hustle’ , ‘Wadjda’, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, ‘Pacific Rim’, ‘Star Trek into Darkness’, ‘Rush’ and ‘The Great Gatsby’.
